Translated from Cornish to “Spirit in the Darkness”

This work revolves around the observed practice of a local practitioner in a Cornish Vale. The communication of the spirits of the area and the water, the feminine aspect of the divine. Unstaged, the images are simply a documentation of an extraordinary woman practising magic, connecting to the divine and the spirits around her. I observe witchcraft from a non-binary perspective, this opens new corridors and perspectives in practice. By viewing the occult world in masculine or feminine energy on a spectrum, anyone may connect with the divine energies that surround us including the Feminine no matter the background. This work studies feminine-identifying individuals in contemporary occult practice connecting to the divine feminine energies, with aesthetic influence from the tarot, and the spirits of the land as well as a curious documentarian ideology of trying to capture something not from this plane of existence with the camera.

In my previous works such as Pagans Generation Z' “Book Of Shadows” which is a document of young occult practitioners in the United Kingdom, this work is perused as more of an experiment. Building close relationships

with the subjects, and collaborating to capture the occult on camera, and perhaps provide evidence of the spirits and mythologies of the occult practices.

“Genius, (Latin: “begetter”) in classical Roman times, an attendant spirit of a person or place.

To walk the path of witchcraft is a declaration of rebellion, we stand strong in resistance to conformity, choosing

to act on the truths that we believe will serve the greater good even at the risk of persecution and prejudice.

We tread in the footsteps of the brave souls who walked the path before us and commune with the unseen forces lost

in the haze of this patriarchal society.

We work in harmony with the elements and unapologetically release our inhibitions in beautiful darkness. We show

reverence for the genius of another by joining and becoming part of the genius that surrounds us all.

We hold deep respect for the sacrifice of self while honouring ourselves and the secret landscapes hidden from the

human eye.”
